WHY DO GOLFERS PRACTICE THEIR LONG GAME AND NEGLECT THEIR SHORT GAME? I feel that golfers do not have the confidence or do not feel comfortable enough over pitch and chip shots to execute these shots properly. The reason being, the closer we get to the green the more precise the shot needs to be. So when we arrive at the area we consider the short game distance (60-100 yards in) our focal point is the hole. This creates a lot of pressure for whatever skill level we have. By building a strong rock solid technique, confidence will eliminate the fear this pressure causes. Spending time working on the mechanics of pitching, chipping and sand shots can only attain this technique. Once we have grooved the proper posture, setup and motion with the hands and feet, improvement will be the result. Most golfers use way to much wrist action on these shots and they do not use the arms and feet properly. Confidence is built from solid mechanics and is the result of practicing proper techniques. |
